Held on University Oval No. 2 as a Final, the grandstand was packed to the rafters with students, alumni, parents and supporters. A livestream was provided so that St John’s supporters from all around the world were able to watch.
Coached by third-year student Jullien Caillol (who was sidelined with an injury), Liam O’Hara and Nathan Charles, the St John’s Rawson Rugby team were once again victorious with a final result against St Andrew’s College of 36-28.
Rawson Rugby Secretaries Eamon Doyle and Ben Chick led a successful campaign throughout the semester, with an undefeated season against Wesley, St Paul’s and St Andrew’s.
The team, captained by third-year Bryn Edwards, entered the game ready to battle to retain the title. After early tries to St Andrew’s, the St John’s squad fought back from a point deficit at half-time (5-14), scoring multiple tries in succession to regain the lead in a dominant second half.
I would like to thank College alumnus and former Waratah, Drew Hickey, for presenting the starting team jerseys before the match.
Finally, a huge thank you to all those who supported the team on the night, either at the field or online.
Well done, St John's College!
