I started university knowing I wanted to be a journalist but was given (ultimately very good) advice to study something else so I’d have expertise to add to my reporting. After a number of changes - and becoming far too good friends with Sydney Uni’s enrolment team - I ended up graduating with a double degree in Science and Commerce, with majors in Psychology and International Business. I also completed exchanges in Canada and Mexico during my five years at Sydney University. Finishing up my studies in Guadalajara, I moved to New York and got my first proper journalist gig as an intern with CNN. This turned into a job, where I stayed for a year. Since then, I have worked at Sky News Business in Sydney for a year and then the ABC, where I reported for TV as well as making documentaries for Radio National’s Science Unit. I also multi-tasked getting an honours degree in psychology during this time.
In 2015, I moved to London where I worked for five years for the BBC, reporting for TV, radio and online. This also involved MC’ing events, such as for the Australia High Commission or the Royal Institution. I was posted for six months to Singapore in 2018 and had a fabulous time so jumped at the chance to move there when a job came up. For the past two years, I have been based in Singapore as the BBC’s Asia Business Reporter. This has involved interviewing finance ministers and world leaders and – if it weren’t for the pandemic! – a fair bit of travel across the region.
I also met my partner through my career (in the BBC’s London newsroom). We have two children, Sienna and Ned.
